Genomic Databases

Genomic databases collect all availabale information of a certain organism in one resource. The most well known databases of such kind are:

WormBase, founded in 2000, is an international consortium of biologists and computer scientists dedicated to providing the research community with accurate, current, accessible information concerning the genetics, genomics and biology of C. elegans and some related nematodes.

FlyBase [Crosby et al. 2007] is a database of genetic and molecular data for Drosophila. FlyBase includes data on all species from the family Drosophilidae; the primary species represented is Drosophila melanogaster.

SGD is a scientific database of the molecular biology and genetics of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is commonly known as baker's or budding yeast.

AceDB is the database for genetic and molecular data concerning Caenorhabditis elegans. Developed since 1989, it provides a custom database kernel, with a non-standard data model designed specifically for handling scientific data flexibly, and a graphical user interface with many specific displays and tools for genomic data. AceDB is used both for managing data within genome projects, and for making genomic data available to the wider scientific community.
