There are great textbooks in computer science and bioinformatics that explain dynamic programming. However they do so by mainly giving examples.
The ADP pages give you a general framework that embraces all DP problems over sequence data. To this end, we need mathematical definitions for the fundamental notions, such like universe, search space, scoring explained above.
The theory section gives you explanations and definitions, but no examples. Because the examples are all given in the applications, and they are clearly structured according to the theory presented here.
